Meet Dr. Riz
Rizwan H. Bukhari, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a highly skilled vascular surgeon who is board-certified and specializes in treating a range of vascular issues. These include aneurysms, carotid artery stenosis, lower extremity arterial blockages, gangrene, dialysis access grafts, and varicose veins. He founded North Texas Vascular Center, offering diagnostic services and minimally invasive outpatient procedures to prevent amputation and limb salvage.
With a focus on preventative care, Dr. Bukhari recognizes the impact of lifestyle choices on his patients’ health and has witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of poor diet and exercise habits. As an advocate of lifestyle medicine, Dr. Bukhari promotes using food as medicine to prevent, halt, and sometimes even reverse disease.
Dr. Riz became board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine in 2019. Today he is a guest speaker on the topic. He has a segment on Healthy Lifestyle Solutions Podcast titled DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE, where he educates listeners on the risk factors associated with chronic diseases. He makes lifestyle recommendations using the six pillars of lifestyle medicine.
With a patient-centered approach to care, Dr. Bukhari is committed to improving his patient’s health and quality of life. Through his expertise in vascular surgery and dedication to lifestyle medicine, Dr. Riz offers his patients a comprehensive approach to disease prevention and management.
About Maya
Maya Acosta is a health and wellness educator, podcaster, and content creator from Dallas, Texas. She advocates for whole-food, plant-based living and co-leads the Plant Based DFW Pod, where she educates the public on the benefits of healthy living through lectures, potlucks, and walks with the doc. Maya’s interest in health outreach was sparked by witnessing the effects of poor lifestyle choices among her husband’s patients, which led her to promote nutrition education and lifestyle medicine.
As the Healthy Lifestyle Solutions podcast host, Maya invites health experts to discuss various plant-based living and lifestyle medicine topics. She is a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s Women’s Health Interest Group, which promotes female health, covering topics such as pregnancy, thyroid issues, and menopause.
Maya is also involved with PlantPure Communities, serving as a Pod Action Committee member and supporting other pod leaders in positively impacting their local communities. She has created courses to teach other leaders how to share their messages on other podcasts and how to support their communities online.
Maya is a highly respected leader in the plant based community, promoting the benefits of a whole-food, plant based lifestyle. Her dedication to health outreach is evident through her involvement in various initiatives such as lectures, potlucks, documentary screenings, and walks with the doc. Additionally, Maya is a content creator for social accounts and a YouTube channel, covering events that matter to her audience and making cooking videos.
